Kalvin's Restaurant sits on Victoria Drive as a bustling spot for those craving authentic Taiwanese and Sichuan flavors in Vancouver. The interior is cozy and a bit snug, which means it fills up fast — especially on weekend evenings, so booking ahead is a smart move if you're coming with a group.

The kitchen leans into bold, wok-fried dishes and traditional Taiwanese comfort food, with a menu that captures a wide range of regional tastes. Popular selections like Three Cup Chicken and Shanghai Style Dumplings invite sharing, but don’t expect huge portions; the servings strike a balance that satisfies without overwhelming, making it easy to sample multiple dishes among friends or family.

Kalvin’s isn’t about polished, upscale dining — the atmosphere is lively and casual, with a noticeable hum of conversation and clatter of dishes. Service can be straightforward and focused more on efficiency than flair, with enough English to navigate the menu but not always extensive. It’s a spot that values the food experience over frills, which locals appreciate, especially those familiar with authentic Taiwanese and Sichuan flavors.

Parking nearby can be tricky, so planning for a short walk or using transit may ease the visit. Also worth noting, Kalvin’s operates on a cash-only basis, so bringing cash or arranging an e-transfer beforehand ensures there are no last-minute hassles.

This restaurant suits adventurous diners who want a genuine taste of Taiwan and Sichuan without the tourist gloss. Whether you’re deep into spicy stews or prefer milder dim sum bites like the Shanghai dumplings, Kalvin’s delivers dishes with a vibrant home-style edge. Lunchtime combos offer good value and a quicker sit-down, while evenings tend to draw a lively crowd looking to unwind over a variety of bold flavors.

I've been wanting to go to this restaurant for quite some time as I heard a lot of good comments from my friends. It's a Saturday night and the restaurant was so busy that no seats were available without booking. We ordered 6 dishes to share among the 6 of us. The portion was not crazy big but good enough to get us home with full and satisfied tummies (4 men & 2 women). 1. Spicy pork blood and intestines stew - this is my favorite dish. Intestines were very tender and pork blood were soft and smooth. The medium spicy sauce made me finish a bowl of rice in no time. 2. Three Cup Chicken - one of the most favorite Taiwanese dishes. Chicken was cooked with one cup of soy sauce, sugar and cooking wine each. Unlike most other restaurants, this dish is neither too sweet or salty. The flavor is delicately balanced that one could keep eating without feeling greasy. 3. Shrimps in salty egg sauce - I like the twist that the chef put into this dish. The Cantonese has have this dish, but the Taiwanese style has put in some deep fried garlic and chili, making this dish even more enticing to the palate. 4. Fried fish meat with chives - pretty good but not particularly special The fish is fresh and the chives are aromatic. 5. Pork belly in brown sauce - the success of this dish lies on the choice of meat. It has to have several layers of fat and meat. This dish was fairly well cooked, and the sweetness of the sauce is on the dot. I just wish the meat has a little bit more fat in it coz the size piece was a bit dry. 6. Sakura shrimps fried rice - simple but good! The rice was very well fried so you could see each and every grain of rice. The sakura shrimps adds saltiness and aroma to the rice. Delicious! There are so many other dishes I want to try. Will definitely visit again. I'm sure this restaurant has more to offer.

We are newbies to this type of Chinese restaurant so we didn’t know what to expect but we really enjoyed the two dishes we ordered. Both tasted excellent and I could recommend this place to even those that aren’t too familiar with Szechuan dishes. Servers didn’t really speak English too well but enough to communicate. Parkings are really tough in this neighborhood though. Just find a place via street in the neighborhood.

Really good Taiwanese food. The dish price is on the higher end. The restaurant is small and fills up quickly. Reservations are recommended if you’re coming with more than two people. They’re also cash only so be prepared to have cash or e-transfer.

Being there for so many times, definitely one of the best and authentic Taiwanese restaurants u can get in Vancouver. The service is always so good, and all dishes are unique and made with strong wok flavour. very addicting as well, be aware to get hooked on going back there over and over. They have really good value to lunch combo too. Highly recommend it. Oh yeah, and have to call to make reservation as the restaurant is quite small.

This is a truly authentic Taiwanese restaurant with great flavors and polite staff. I ordered some bold, flavorful dishes, and ended up finishing all the rice! Left with a full belly and a happy heart. I'll definitely come back to try other dishes next time!
